EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) is a great saving option for many Indians.
EPF is a guaranteed investment product. And it often provides returns that are in line with inflation.
With the introduction of UAN (Universal Account Number), EPFO has made it seamless to track all your PF accounts.
In this guide, I will cover all your options to check PF balance online.
PPF (Public Provident Fund) cannot be tracked using the services listed below. You will need to check the PPF balance separately. Check with the bank or post office you used to open your PPF account.
#1: EPFO Website
Navigate to the EPFO member passbook section.
Once you log with your UAN and password, you will be able to see all your PF accounts associated with your UAN.
Don’t have a UAN? Here’s how to get UAN.
#2: UMANG App
The UAMNG app is an official app to access various government services. Follow the steps below to access your passbook.
#1: Download and install the UMANG app
#2: Login and search for EPFO
Click on Employee Centric Services.
#3: Click on View Passbook
#4: Enter UAN and OTP
Don’t forget to click on “Get OTP” to generate the OTP.
#5: Once Authenticated, Click on “View Passbook” Again
You will now be taken to a page that lists all the PF accounts mapped against your UAN.
Your UAN needs to be activated before you can avail of this service. You can self-activate, or your employer can activate it for you. Here’s how to activate your UAN.
#3: SMS
You can get PF balance and the latest transaction through SMS.
Send the SMS from your registered mobile number in the format given below:
EPFOHO <UAN> to 7738299899
Replace <UAN> with your UAN number.
The default language is English. If you want the information in any other language, use the following format.
EPFOHO <UAN> <LANGUAGE> to 7738299899
Replace <LANGUAGE> with the first three letters of any of the supported languages listed below.
- Hindi – HIN
- Punjabi – PUN
- Gujarati – GUJ
- Marathi – MAR
- Kannada – KAN
- Telugu – TEL
- Tamil – TAM
- Malayalam – MAL
- Bengali – BEN
Sometimes the language functionality might not work. Try sending the SMS without the language if you do not get any response.
#4: Missed Call
Call the following number from your registered mobile number.
011-22901406
After two rings, the call will automatically disconnect. You will receive an SMS shortly with your PF details.
Pro Tip: Wait for the call to disconnect automatically. If you hang up before the auto-disconnect, you might not get the SMS.
What is the easiest way to check my PF balance?
The easiest way is to give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number.
What if I want to know the details of my transactions?
If you want more details, you will need to log in to the EPFO passbook online. All the accounts linked to your UAN will be listed in your online passbook.
I did not receive an SMS when I tried to check my EPF balance.
SMS service doesn’t always work. Your best option is to try the missed call service or logging into the EPFO website directly.
Will PPF balance reflect in my PF account online with EPFO?
No. To check your PPF balance, reach out to the bank or post office where you opened your account.
Usually, banks will give you a passbook, which you need to update by going to the bank.
If you haven’t been to the bank, log into their net banking service to check your account balance.
My PF balance is incorrect. What can I do?
Register your grievance under the “EPF i Grievance Management System“.
I am getting an error – Mobile number is not registered with any UAN.
You get this error when you send SMS/give a missed call from an unregistered number. Use the registered number to get the PF details.
I am getting an error – Details against Member ID does not exist.
This is mostly a temporary error. I have seen this error even though my UAN was activated, and I used the correct number. Try again after some time.
